Welcome to this weeks post. I hope everyone has been keeping well and doing the same as me. Sitting down, not moving and consuming as much TV as physically possible.

It’s been a steady week ‘im just looking forward to the upcoming new season of both “New Amsterdam.” as well as “Manifest.” Both for a very different reason. Last season Manifest ended in a massic cliffhanger, and I want to know where they are planning on going this season; with New Amersterdam, they had to cut some scenes for last season due to the pandemic, and as it’s the only medical show not to have started this season I am intrigued to see how/if they are going to discuss the epidemic.

Well, with the welcomes out of the way, let us’s bring on the news

But just before I get into the news, can I remind people I have a Patron account. I know it’s very cheeky to ask, but like I have said before, for all I know, I could just be shouting into the wind here. So if I see members start to appear, it will let me know I’m doing this for someone; it will motivate me to keep this up. I am also thinking of adding a list of all the people who Patron members to thank them. Anyway, that’s the uncomfortably plug out of the way, so for real this time, On with the news.

Oh, just one more thing. If you don’t know already, I have an Instagram account where I post a small image of the show I’m watching; it’s a complete list, then this weekly blog and also more up to date.

Below is just some of the recent posts to get an idea of how my post’s look; if you like what you see, please think about following me.
I am trying to get to 100, and I’m at 83 at the time of writing. So only 17 more to go.

And now finally On with the news

News

Renewed - Cancelled - Ordered

As I suspected, we are starting to get come Renewals, cancellations and hints at new shows. I doubt it will be long until we get a sudden flood of news about other show’s future, but this week it’s just CBS breaking cover with information.

In the past seven days, CBS has renewed Comedy “Bob Hearts Abishola” for its third season, and at the same time, they also renewed their network neighbour “The Neighbourhood.” Also, for its third season. Later in the week, CBS cancelled the long-running comedy “Mom”, currently in its 8th season. Hopefully, they have enough time to produce a nice ending to this magnificent show. Unfortunately, that was not the only show to be cancelled this week by CBS; they have also chosen to end NCIS: New Orleans ending after this it’s 7th season. But when one spin-off goes, another takes its place, possibly as CBS is looking into the idea of ordering another NCIS franchise, this time located in Hawaii. This would bring the total NCSI’s to four. The original, LA, New Orleans and Hawaii.

Well, that’s all the news I could find this week, but there are another seven days ahead, so you never know what’s going to happen.

I Have Been Watching

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver S8 E1 “The Next Pandemic”

HBO – Comedy/News/Talk-show

Last week tonight 2021.jpg

It’s been three months since we had a new “Last Week Tonight” episode, so its always going to be interesting to see what subjects they choose to cover with so much happening during their time off. It was nice to know that they went a bit left field and did not cover the current global pandemic.

This week episode’s main topic was all about what might course the next pandemic, How it’s going to form, Where it’s going to come from and how we can help prevent it. As someone who doesn’t go out of the way to look into subjects like this, I always enjoy my weekly John Oliver fix.

Ever since “Last Week Tonight” started, I have found it fascinating the broad gambit of topics chosen to discuss. Considering John had to move from his home in the UK to America to get to the next level, it’s nice to see him doing so well and always looking happy on the screen each week.

For a show that’s on a prestigious network like HBO, it’s been a breath of fresh air to see John record in his Void “room in his home.” It’s going to be weird to see him in a full studio with a packed audience, big-budget ending’s and guest star’s

The Equalizer S1 E1 “The Equalizer” E2“Glory”

CBS – Action/Crime/Drama

The Equlizer .jpg

Whenever I hear a network is planning a reboot, I am always sceptical. Will it be as good as the original? Can I live up to the hype? To make this reboot harder to win over fans. It’s not only a reboot of a classic 80’s TV show but also two films in 2014,2018. Even though the movie were not critical successes, they still did well in the cinemas.

So when I heard about this new version, I was going into it with some hesitation, But I shouldn’t have worried. The casting of “Queen Latifah” as the “Robyn AKA The Equalizer” Was perfection.

The first episode helped introduce the main cast very well by telling the story of a young girl (Dellila) who is accused of murder. The two meet when Robyn saves her from being raped and offers to look after her. Robyn takes Dellila to a former colleague’s bar to look into her situation.

Not only do we get to see Robyn’s “Batcave”, but we get to see the people she will be working with. The master hacker presumed dead “Harry” to “Melody”, the sniper expert and now bar owner.

When the police detain Delilah, it introduces us to “Marcus”, an NYPD detective. After crossing paths with Robyn pretending to be Delilah’s lawyer, Marcus starts looking into who Roybn is, Where she came from, and her link to Delila.

Robyn decides to help other people in a ticky situation out but posting ads on social media after helping Delilah.

In the second episode, Robyn is asked to help a mother who’s sone is being held hostage and won’t release him until she has retrieved information locked in a safe of an FBI agent she works for as a nanny. When she finds the kidnappers, they are about the set a couple on fire until she takes them out. When the FBI find the now abandoned, it sparks the interest of don’t take much too NYPD officer Marcus he thinks it might be liked to his mystery woman. At the same time, she is being followed by a former work partner who is part of an organization called “The Company.” Who are trying to persuade her to re-join them, and when she discovers the CIA is aware of her and what she is doing, she takes them up on their offer but with a few added terms.

After the first two episodes, I am looking forward to seeing this game of cat and mouse play out between Robyn and the NYPD officer.

Clarice S1 E1 “The Silence is Over.” E2 “Ghosts of Highway 20.”

CBS – Crime/Drama/Mystery

Clarice.jpg

Ok, before I start, I have to confess that I have not seen “silence of the lambs.” So going into “Clarice.” I was looking at it as a stand-alone show hoping that I would get the story, and yes, I am happy to say I could understand what was going on from the very beginning.

In the first episode of the season, we get to know Clarice a bit about why she is in therapy and why she is chosen to get back out into the field when two bodies appear with similar knife wounds. The work believed to be from a serial killer.

When the US Attorney General (Ruth Martin) set’s up a task force to tackle serial murderers and sexual predators, not only is Clarice still dealing with the trauma of what happened to her in “Silence of the lambs”, but her newfound fame and the world of US politics.

When Clarice has to use political speak to say whether this new case is a serial killer or not, it does not sit well with her as she liked to me 100% sure of the facts before saying so.

And In the second episode of the series, the task force is called to Tennessee. To help the local FBI, who are struggling to deal with a militant group, are fighting back after one of the agents was shot dead. When they get there and start to set things up, they discover a child, something they were not expecting to see, so when the militant group allow Clarice into their compound, she finds it’s not all that it seams.

After watching the first two episodes, I am looking forward to seeing this one next week. As much as it’s like many procedural shows, it’s got a much grittier look to in, and that is what is drawing me to it.

Kenan S1 E1 “pilot.”

NBC – Comedy

Kenan.jpg

As a massive fan of “Kenan & Kel” in my childhood, I looked forward to seeking Kenan Thompson in a lead role of a comedy. Having not read much about this show’s premise, I was surprised at how quickly I got into this one. The show centres on “Kenan.” A recently divorced father and TV breakfast show host, now having to raise, is kids under his father-in-law’s watchful eye.

In the pilot episode, everybody keeps asking Kenan how he is coping with the loss of his wife. Kenan believes he’s coping well until he is asked to talk about his loss on his show. All is going well until he starts to trip over his words and insults all stay-at-home moms and also Beyonce. This outburst puts im in the dog house with his audience, so the show’s producers force him to make an on-air apology, but without using the words, I’m sorry.

So during the following day’s show, Kenan starts to read his scripted apology but then decides to go off-script, telling his fans that he never wanted to talk about his wife’s passing on the show, but now he has, he feels much better.

Like many new shows, I never make my final verdict of whether I like it or not from just the first episode. I want to watch at least four episodes, but so far im not sure about this. The formula is there; I can see the main pillars of a standard sit-com. It’s just going to take a few more episodes to see if there is enough story to keep me interested in where they are going to go with this.

Mom S8 E8 “Bloody Stumps and a Chemical Smell”

CBS – Comedy/Drama/Romance

Mom 2021.jpg

As we now know that this is “Mom’s” final season, I am wishing they have been given enough time to write a stratifying end to the series. To be honest, I was not surprised it was coming to an end. After “Anna Faris” left at the end of last season and all of her character’s children moved on in recent seasons, the show’s central premise was slowly disappearing.

I like that they used the surrounding cast more to help bulk out the story, and I am also enjoying where Bonnie is now in terms of her relationship with Adam, But that can only hold viewers for so long until they want to see Bonnie fall off the wagon again.

I the most recent episode, Bonnie struggles to decide what to do with her spare room; she goes back to see her therapist, who offers the advice of not to think about what to put into the unsued room but what to take out. This guidance unearths deeper issues Bonnie has been hiding. Mainly fearing that Christy won’t be coming back home.

Also, in this episode, Tammy is struggling to live with Marjorie as it seems that wherever she does, it’s always wrong. Still, after going to one of Adam’s Al-anon meetings, she begins to put some boundaries between her and Marjorie. In the third storyline going on at the moment, is Jill dealing with becoming single again after splitting from Andy, the police officer. But when she helps Bommie take a homemade driftwood side table to her therapist, she begins to flirt with him even when Bonnie says he’s off-limits; not to be told what to do, Jill makes a box to hide the tissue box. It would be nice to have some happy endings for a show mainly about sobriety.

Tough as Nails S2 E1 “Just Another Day On the Job.”

CBS – Reality-TV

Tough as Nails.jpg

If you have read any of my previous posts, you might know I am a big fan of reality competition shows, like Survivor, The Amazing Race and Big Brother. So last year, when Tough As Nails started, I was hooked from the start. The show was devised by Phil Keoghan, Host of The Amazing Race, and it’s a series of challenges around different job sites.

Each of the 12 Contestant believes they are tough as nails and come from a background of labour jobs ranging from a builder to fight fighter, Welder to Farmer.

The Contestants compete in challenges based on real-world jobs like having to build a small wall. After each test, the person who comes last is eliminated, but they keep competing in the team tasks, unlike other shows. Because at the start of the season, the players are split into two teams and face a challenge to try and win $12,000 for their team, and the overall team that wins the most also win a $60,000 bonus to split between them.

Season one ended in September, But it’s already back for its second season. What was nice to see was that they keep the team names from the last season. So in this first episode, the contestants had to break up concrete into smaller chucks and fill a provide container until it reached a specified weight, after which they then had to mix enough raw material to fill a wooden frame. The first two to finish the task had the opportunity to pick the teams for the team portion of the competition.

The following day the two teams competed in there first team contest. What they had to do was build a wooden frame for a garage out of pre-cut wooden pieces using the provided blueprint.

What is excellent the see in a show of this type is that everyone is encouraging each other, and everyone looks to get along with everyone. I can’t wait to see the completion progress.

And there we have it. That’s another update done. Just a quick reminder, please don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and if you have enjoyed that I have been doing here and want it to continue, please consider becoming a patron.

Once again Thanks and goodnight
