Season 5 Episode 4: Bull, Chicago MED, The Equalizer

Season 5 Episode 4: Bull, Chicago MED, The Equalizer

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

Welcome back to another weekly update on just some of the shows I have been watching the past seven days. This week I have a few completely free days, so I am using them wisely and planning to catch up on the show I have fallen behind on, mainly because they are new for 2021. I always pick shows to watch that I have invested a lot of time into, so the new ones get left, and I now have a backlog of them to watch. This might help me get into them and then not leave them to build up again.

And now the obligatory plug for the now almost mandatory Patreon. I’m not a person that is comfortable using or even talking about Patreon, but I am going to start finding a way to best use the service. Currently, I only add peoples names to a Hall of Fame but am looking at adding questions/polls to help everyone discover new shows and make this a place for great recommendations

Also, don’t forget I have an Instagram account where I regularly post about the shows I Have Been Watching and also post about any news updates before I weekly blog update.

And coming in joint first place in the “full-season pickup” is NCIS: Hawaii and FBI: International, with both being part of well-established franchise’s it’s not a big surprise but considering it’s only been a few week’s it still shows a large amount of trust from CBS to give them an entire season and also looks promising for a renewal near the end of the season. I have never gotten into NCIS and its spin-offs, but I know it will be welcome news to its hardcore fan base. With FBI, however, I did watch the first season but fell behind and never court up, so when FBI: Most wanted started, I was not rushing to watch it; that goes for FBI: International as well.

The series follows the elite operatives in the FBI's International Fly Team which is headquartered in Budapest. They are charged with locating and neutralizing threats against American interests, wherever they may be. The team includes Scott Forrester, a tough and hard-core FBI agent who is the team leader and is very tough on his team; Jamie Kellett, a career FBI agent and second in command of the team; Andre Raines, a young and very smart FBI agent who is an expert in accounting; and Cameron Vo, the newest member on the team who was formerly with the Seattle FBI office and is an interrogation expert. They are assisted by Katrin Jaeger, a veteran FBI Europe agent who deals with the political side for the team.

In this TV series adaptation, titled "Chucky," a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, and an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky's past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Also, this week we got the news that Sky has picked up the “Chucky” tv show based on the film series in the UK. They have not yet revealed which of their many channels it will air on, but it’s looking like “Sky Max.” As well at the Chucky news, I was announced that the 20th season of Family Guy will premier first on Disney’s streaming service “Disney+.” Within its “Star” section. This moves the show from ITV 2. After a few months of exclusivity, I would assume that the season will eventually make it over to ITV 2.

Sick, twisted and politically incorrect, the animated series features the adventures of the Griffin family. Endearingly ignorant Peter and his stay-at-home wife Lois reside in Quahog, R.I., and have three kids. Meg, the eldest child, is a social outcast, and teenage Chris is awkward and clueless when it comes to the opposite sex. The youngest, Stewie, is a genius baby bent on killing his mother and destroying the world. The talking dog, Brian, keeps Stewie in check while sipping martinis and sorting through his own life issues.

I Have Been Watching

Bull S6 E1 “Gone”

CBS - Comedy/Crime/Drama

Bull is another show starting a few weeks after the rest of this season, but they came out of the gate swinging. Bull is a show that had me hooked from its first season. In the season premiere episode, the focus was aimed directly at Bull. After a night out, he and his partner came home to discover the babysitter tied up and their baby had been kidnapped. After a phone call from the kidnappers, they wanted a large amount of money in exchange for the safe return of their daughter. For a season opener, it was great to see them working on a story arc that can continue throughout the current season. As well as the first episode of this season, I have also watched the second episode and loved how they used the trauma of having a sibling kidnapped. In the second episode, Chunk was assigned a case outside of TAC. Still, Bull decided to return to the office earlier than was expected, so he instantly wanted to get involved in the cast. The case involving espionage is usually not taken to court. Still, after Bull meets with the lawyer working for the other side, he dislikes him and wants to defeat him and put him in his place. During the days of the trial, Bull was getting into a rage with some of his staff for not doing things correctly or quick enough. By the end of the episode, Bull had finally excepted he had not processed what he went through during the first episode.

Chicago Med S7 E3 “Be the change you want to see.”

Chicago MED.jpg

NBC – Drama

This season Chicago MED is doing a great job keeping three storylines going throughout the season and weaving them into each other.

The first storyline involves “Goodwin” thinking a fellow doctor is trying to sell an expensive medical device in turn for money and or perks. Still, to get the evidence, she offers “Will Halsted” his job back after losing it by tempering with a medical trial. Not everyone is excited about Will return. This is a story I’m intrigued to see where this goes. Will “Will” get court gathering evidence, will he break the rules to get the evidence, or will he become just like “Dr Matt Cooper” and start selling the product and receiving the same kickbacks for real.

Another storyline for this season is a continuation for the end of last season. “Maggie” has recently reconnected with her estranged daughter by offering her advice about getting into a good hospital for her training. It’s only recently that “Maggie” has explained to her how she is and why she is so willing to help. This story arc has so many possibilities that they could stretch it out over this season and into the next season.

The final big story for this season is that while “Dr Ethan Choi” is away recovering from surgery “, Dr Archer” is temporary chief of the emergency department. Some of the ideas he has implemented like timing how long each doctor spends with each patient to see how strategically use their times best do not go down with some of the team most notably with “Dr Daniel Charles” Chief of Psychiatry thinks that you can’t rush a diagnosis when it comes to psychiatry. This battle will be one to watch as their styles look like they will clash at every turn.

When the One Chicago family was renewed for three seasons a few years ago, I was over the moon as it meant they could plan for a way into the future and its beginning to show with the slow build over the recent season, and with next year being the final season of that significant renewal I’m hopeful they will get at least a single season renewal as it looks like the mainstay on Wednesday nights on NBC.

The Equalizer S2 E1 “Aftermath”

Equlizer, The.jpg

CBS – Action/Crime/Drama

One of last seasons new shows was the surprise remake of “The Equalizer” starring Queen Latifah. As someone how had never seen the original TV shows of the more recent film adaptations, I was drawn into this show from the start, and I was pleased to see it get the second season.

The final episode of last season laid the groundwork for this season, as “Robyn” came clear to both her mother and her daughter the latter only because she found her mothers stoage locker filled with guns, wigs and fake passports. So with the relationship between Robyn and Delilah at rock bottom, will Delilah keep her mothers secret, Will she come to terms with the lies she has been told all her life.

This story is not the only story arc happening this season. At the end of the season opener, Harry was starting to miss being able to go outside as he had been in hiding for years, so he would be presumed dead. So when he asks Robyn to help him come back to life, he can live a regular life and not have to keep looking over his shoulder.  This will make for an excellent through-line for the season and can bring in people from Harry’s past, so we get to know more about him.
