Out of the three Chicago shows, I always watch Fire; first, it may be because it was the first, so I’m more invested in the firefighters of Firehouse 51 or because I prefer the action involved with dealing with Fires, anyway this weeks episode had a few good storylines. One involving the paramedics of the firehouse who were called out to a local mini-mart a few times. Each time the store’s owner suddenly collapsing with no explanation as to what had caused it. After receiving a letter saying the first fall was not an accident. They tried to figure out what was going on.
The other storyline for this episode was a trainee firefighter trained by Kelly, who was underperforming and making commonsense mistakes, like after using a thermal imaging camera to find a wrench that had recently been in a scorching oven, he picks it up with his bare hands. This mistake raised concerns that he might not have what it takes to become a firefighter. Still, with him being the son of Chief Gary Mercer and a close personal friend of Chief Boden, he’s giving him another chance to prove himself.
Within this week’s episode, we also got a bit more of the ongoing Casey head injury story. Bret was getting a bit of information from Will regarding him having headaches. This makes her confront Casey about the situation. He tells her he’s feeling better and is no longer having any problems. Later on, Brett tells Casey that she can’t back down from this problem and would regret it if anything happened to him and she had done nothing to prevent it. In the evening inside, Mollys Casey and Brett have a discussion where Vasey thanks her for not backing down and confesses he’s worried that the outcome will be as it could mean he will no longer be a firefighter, so Brett offers to go with him to the doctors to get himself checked over.
And finally, during a training section, the firefighter recruits are challenged to enter a burning building and try to find a couple of dummies used to represent members of the public. After the first two enter the building fully suited up and using their breathing masks, one of the other trainees thinks theirs something wrong with her mask as it has a funny smell. After Kelly check’s it, he discovers that Mercer had filled up the tanks with Carbon Monoxide. After one of the trainee’s exit’s the training building and immediately collapses, Kelly orders Mercer to go and open all the veneration holes and another trainee to go and get help.
After this simple mistake, Kelly has no choice but to kick Mercer from the program and deal with the consequences after.
