Here is another show that took a month off, but like “The Rookie”, it came back better than ever.
It’s Almost the grand opening of Mo & Max’s new restaurant. All they have to do is pass the fire marshals inspection, which doesn’t go well. They are left with a long list of things they need to fix/change to be given a certificate they need to be allowed to open. It’s going to be close if they will make the nessasery changes to open on time.
In this episode, David is struggling with being a stay at home dad; this is where he gets the first song of the attack, “Drift Away” by Uncle Kracker. This is because Zoey introduces David to Adien and tells him he’s in a band. David is eager to tell Adien he used to be in a college band, so Adien says he should drop by and see the band practice.
But in the main story of the episode, Zoey is trying to find someone how wants to go with her to see a meteor shower. She promised her father they would revisit the next time they came around after everyone is busy, either with a newborn baby or opening a new local hot spot. She is left with Leif and Tobin. During the journey to where Zoey and her father saw the shower last time, Leif kept saying it was the wrong choice and telling Zoey where to get the mentors’ best views. In contrast, Tobin kept saying the whole area was like something out of a scary movie.
Once they arrive at the viewing location, Leif is distracted by a voicemail from Kaia, someone he went on a date with, but before they got their food, she had to leave after finding out her grandmother had died. Just as Tobin says he can see something through the telescope, Leif starts to sing our second song of the episode “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell and by the end of the song, it was too late for Zoey to see the showers and now only has one more day to see them before they go away for another 20+ years.
Back with David. He drops by with baby Miles to see Adien’s band practice and reminds him that he was in a band while at college. After seeing that no one is playing on the keyboard, he plays a little bit, and Adien says he’s always welcome to jam with them. Having to go and change Miles, he promises to return another day and jam out with them. This is where we get a third song in the episode. When David returns to jam with the band, they play “Watermelon Sugar.” By Harry Styles. A piece david is unfamiliar with but says he can figure it out as it goes along.
And near the end of the episode, MaxiMo is almost ready to open. They are just waiting on the final inspection for the fire marshal. With a crowd waiting outside becoming impatient, they are not open yet and that their food would be here before they got inside. Zoeys says she’s going and find out how long it’s going to be. And just after getting inside, Mo returns with the certificate they desperately need so they can open and start letting the wait crown in. But before they open, Max gives the staff a pep talk with some things not to say to the customers. And this where we get the final song of the episode, “Let’s get loud”, by Jenifer Lopez.
In the final scenes of this weeks episode, Zoey, Tobon, Leif, Max, Simon, and Mackenzie drive back to see the meteor shower. Still, when Leif invites Zoey to view the shower before the moment is gone, she says, “seeing you guys have this moment is the moment for me.” This episode was perfectly balanced between story and song, Drama and Comedy and gave everybody enough screen time to get their story across.
