News

Renewed - Cancelled - Ordered

National Treasure.jpg

it’s been another slow news week.

The only news I could find was the news that Disney+ is ordered a series based on the film franchise “National Treasure”. Disney+ is a relatively new streaming service and already they have a great collection of original shows and in some countries, they have some of the best back catalogues of older TV shows.

As more shows come to an end we are getting closer to seeing what next seasons TV schedule will look like.

I Have Been Watching

The Good Doctor S4 E12 “Teeny Blue Eyes”

ABC– Drama

Good Doctor, The 4.jpg

Every so often, a show can produce a near-perfect episode and this week, it was The Good Doctor's turn. The episode's main storyline was centred around a prominent surgeon (Dr Chambers) coming into the hospital for an operation. Still, after the medical team's first conversation with him, they soon discover he's going to be challenging to deal with. It doesn't take long for Shawn to believe he also has some form of autism.

Every time Shawn brought up autism with Dr Chambers, he shoots it down and starts an argument. It's not until Dr Chambers caves in and takes the test to prove he is not autistic that he finally admits he has it and needs to be a surgeon as that's all he is good at.

In an ongoing storyline, Shawn and Lea are having trouble dealing with the news that she is pregnant. Lea is worried that her child will inherit his ASD. After they both made a list of all the worries they have about becoming parents, they decided that they would not be great parents at the moment and book an appointment to stop the pregnancy. When Lea's name is called at the doctor's office, she begins to have doubts, and they both agree to keep the baby.

What makes this episode stand out is that I could see the similarities between Shawn and Dr Chambers in the way they interact with each other from the very beginning. Even when Shawn gets frustrated with Chambers unwillingness to believe he has any level of autism.

Superstore S6 E14/15 “Perfect Store” “All Sales Final”

NBC– Comedy

Superstore 2021.jpg

When a long-running show comes to an end, it's usually when a network decides not to renew it for the next season. This typically means the shows writers have to plan a way to then the show quickly, so the fans are happy. In some cases, a show will get picked up by another network to live on for at least one more season. By with Superstore, they chose to end it with its sixth season, and what a way to go out. In this season, the staff have had to deal with the global pandemic, zephra buyout and Management changes.

In the previous episode, staff found out that parent company zephra was planning on closing down the Cloud 9 stores because they were not making enough money to be sustainable.  So in this week's hour-long series final, Amy returned to fill the team in on what was going on. Yes, Zephra was planning on shutting down around 90% of its cloud 9 stores and was sending someone to the store to evaluate it secretly. In the hours leading up to the evaluation, everyone was tasked with making the store as presentable as possible. When a bag with human feet was left in the store, the team did everything to stop the news from getting out and ruining their chances of staying open.

When the police and local news arrived, it seemed unlikely that the store would be one of the 10% to be saved. Amy was worried about the staff's jobs as not everyone would be taken out when the site is turned into a fulfilment centre for the Cloud 9 online store. She is told her career is still safe. Still not happy about what is happening, she stands by her former colleges and decides to quit.

In the second half of the episode, we get to see the stores final day and what everyone's plans for the future will be. This is an excellent way of reminding us of what some of the staff have been through in the previous five seasons.

Amy returns to the store to see everyone on their last day, only to be asked to help out one last time.

Dinan has been given the job of managing the new fulfilment centre but only as five jobs available and is staggering to pick how is best suited for the job, that is until Sandra walks in a picks the five for her including herself as Assistant Manager.

Matteo spends most of the day trying to become Carol's assistant, believing she is rich after suing the company. Still, with the lawyer's fees and the text messages saying she's going to try and get injured at work, she can only hire him for 8 hrs a week. He has to find someone that will hire an undocumented person.

Glen is planning on retiring until he realises he will have so many hours to fill and just wants to work. This is when he needs to reopen Stuggis and sons hardware store. The company forced to close because of cloud 9 and will need help running the store so offers Cheyenne and Matteo a job.

The only person who is unfazed by the store's closing is Garrett until he has to make his final store announcement and give a passionate speech. We see everyone in their new jobs and finally hanging out at a BBQ.

This final episode was perfect and could not have gone out any better.

Call me Kat S1 E13 “Cat-A-Versary”

FOX– Comedy

Call me Kat.jpg

It's another show coming to an end this week. Hopefully, it will return for a second season.

In this weeks episode of Call me Kat, one of Kat's oldest cats passes away close to the first anniversary of the café opening. This sudden passing makes Kat upset no matter what her friends do; nothing helps her feel happier. That is until Max comes around with a bottle of whiskey and reminds her that when his Dog died, she did the same thing and helped him a lot.

It was in the previous episode that Kat sent an email to Max's ex-girlfriend in France during a sleeping pill accident. So it was going to take something like a cat passing away to help repair their friendship. After talking about some of the happy moments, Kat had with the cat. She agrees to hold a FUNeral to celebrate all the felines people have lost over the years.

After the cat was cremated, Randi is asked to go to the vets to retrieve the ashes. Still, not wanting to leave them in her car because she doesn't want to make her vehicle haunted, she brings the ashes into Carters apartment, where she accidentally leaves them. Carter offers to bring them with him to the FUNeral. Until he forgets them in a rideshare car, after finding out the car was too far away to get them and come back in time, he offers Kat a box his child made filled with rice, hoping she won't open it.

After Oscar Kats boyfriend said it's "Just a cat", he knows he will have to do something big to apologise for the remark. So when he arrives with the wooden box containing the ashes of the cremated cat, he is forgiven, and the FUNeral service can begin.

The Voice S20 E6 “The Blind Audition part 6”

NBC - Gameshow/Music/RealityTV

The Voice.jpg

This week was the final episode of the blind audition rounds of The Voice. I'm sure there was fewer blind audition episode this season than there has been in the past. Im not sure if this was because they could bring in fewer artists this time or because they may have started the season later than usual, so they have fewer episodes this time.

One of the reasons I love The Voice is the wide range of songs. It's always great when someone sings a song you love, especially if it's from a minor artist, as I feel smug. With the battle rounds starting next week, I hope to see some fantastic collaborations as I have recently finished watching The Voice UK. They had some of the best battle rounds I have seen on any version of The Voice.

Another thing that always comes to mind when I watch an episode was my brain wants to create its fantasy coach line up. Looking at line ups from the past, I have seen a few similarities, im not sure if they are hard and fast rules or just something everyone does just by accident; every lineup has at least one woman. Most also have someone representing the rock world. I have never made a definitive final lineup. Still, I always fill one spot with Mark Ronson as he has worked with so many great artists. As a producer, he can help the auditioning artist pick great songs and change how a song is customarily played.

Tough as Nails S2 E7 “Orange you glad you’re tough?”

CBS- RealityTV

Tough as Nails.jpg

As the show is getting down to the final few players left in the individual part of the game, it's obvious to see the toll the games are having on the players.

This weeks team challenge was to beautify two recently build homes front driveways using a set of plans. With the teams, uneven Savage crew had to sit one person out. Even with that, they still managed to secure the team's win along with the $12,000 for the group to share.

In the individual competition, they had to pick enough oranges to fill four boxes, three with small oranges and one with large oranges. Everyone seemed to have a different strategy for choosing the oranges to pick off the tree. Some seemed to be sizing them up from off the tree. Others were just picking as many as they could fit into their sacks and then sorting them at their stations. This meant some had picked too many small ones and have to got back more and get the larger ones.

Once it was down to the final two, they had to enter overtime, and this weeks challenge was going to be tough. The two in danger had to use a small bucket to bring water from a large storage tank and pour it into their tank, which was draining water out of the bottom. The person how's tank emptied first would be eliminated. As someone who dislikes running, knowing they both did this for over an hour, I am mightily impressed.

I may have said this before but what makes this show stand out is that everybody helps each other out; at one point, one contestant was sorting out her orangies into someone else's box's, this shows that they all want to win the money far and square.

The Goldbergs S8 E14 “Love Triangle”

ABC- Comedy

Goldbergs, The Airoplane.jpg

With the recent news of George "Pops" Segal's passing, I was a little worried about this weeks episode. Would they show a rerun of his best episode, or even worse, would they rush out a clips episode with all of Pops best bits. Thankfully they played the regularly scheduled episode. Which hopefully means they have something big planned by way of sending George off in grand style.

I have no problem with it being a clips episode just as long as it's done right with a well-meaning story. I believe they have to address pops death within the world of The Goldbergs. One of the best ideas I could come up with is having them sit around the dinner table after the funeral telling each other stories they have of pops to help them remember him positively.

So now, back to this weeks episode, which was all about 80's daytime talk shows.
With them being a thing, both Barry & Geoff love barry is angry when Geoff decides to take Erica with him to the Nancy Glass Show's live taping. After Geoff picked his girlfriend over his best friend, he hatches a plan to get back at him by pretending to start dating Geoff's sister.

In the other story of this episode, Adams girlfriend is going away to see her cousin at the University of Virginia. Adam is ok with this until Beverly gets into this heads, making him think she may never come back, or if she does that, she will have changed so much she will want to leave him.

This manipulation encourages Adam and Beverly to take a road trip to surprise Brea with a grand gesture. It's only when Murry gets a call from his bank checking to see if he rented a horse that Murry takes it upon himself to stop the crazy plan and tell Adam the truth.

So then Murry tackles Adam to the ground to stop him from making a fool of himself and showing him that he was being manipulated by his mother Beverly that he sees the truth.

In the conclusion of the Geoff/Barry story, it turns out that Barry has also managed to get tickets to see the taping. When Nacy Glass opens the floor to questions, the topic quickly turns from ghosts to how important as a best friend and should they be affected by a girlfriend.

This show was an episode that was not filled with laugh out loud moments, but when they were there, they were outstanding. What I like most about his episode was that it told both stories perfectly, striking a balance between comedy and drama. This final scene between Barry and Geoff's sister falling for each other was just what was needed.

And there we have it. That’s another update done. Just a quick reminder, please don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and if you have enjoyed that I have been doing here and want it to continue, please consider becoming a patron.
