Season 2 Episode 2: Planning is great in hindsight
Welcome back to another update on the shows I have been watching recently
But first a news update
As the season is getting underway the networks are starting to look over the numbers and see what shows to offer a full season and it’s a lot here are the shows getting a Full Season order.
And now the shows I have been watching
Monday
God Friended me - Pilot
In a clever use of modern tech, this show has a basic premise of guy helps someone. In the pilot episode Miles, an Atheist podcast host gets a Facebook friend request from God who uses the account to introduce Miles to help in need even if he doesn't know why yet.
After getting a friend suggestion "John Dove" a man having a bad time in his life. Miles has to both save John but also find out who is in control of the god account. He was also introduced to "Cara Bloom" a journalist who offers to help in his search of the God Account in exchange for writing a story about it.
I love this type of show and think the uses of Facebook is great it give the show a modern feel but also familiar. I have seen a few episodes and can so-far say it just keeps getting more interesting as the over arcing storyline of the god account is going to keep me coming back each week.
Tuesday
The Neighbourhood - Pilot
I have always loved a good half hour, and this one is one of the best for the new batch this season. The Neighbourhood centre’s on the new white neighbours who move into a predominantly black neighbourhood.
In the first episode, The Johnsons move into the empty house next door to the butlers. What makes this show great is that on the surface it looks like your typical white family, black family see how different they are.
But after a few episodes, I can see they are tackling similar situations like other shows but can do it from two different ethnic backgrounds.
In the week this show was given a full season order so it must be doing something right
Wednesday
New Amsterdam - Every last minute
NBC's New Amsterdam is another medical show, and most people would say there is enough of them already, but I don't think I will ever get tired of them and this one feels different, and stand's out from the rest. From the opening scenes of the pilot episode where new medical director Dr Max Goodwin fires some of the staff.
Some medical shows have a reneged junior doctor or surgeon, but this one has a renegade medical director determined to help the patients over making the hospital money.
I have now seen a few episodes now and think the pacing of this show I dame near perfect and the over arcing storyline is going to keep people coming back even if it’s hard to see how they can keep it going for more than one season.
Thursday
Goldberg’s - Hershey park
If you don't know already The Goldberg’s is one of my favourite Comedies currently on TV. Even into its sixth season it's still finding classic 80's references from pop culture including TV show's, movies and music.
At the beginning of this season they cleverly used the plot to sixteen candles.
As the cast get older, it's getting harder to believe they are still in the 80's. but with a 90’s spin-off in the works
In this weeks episode Adam had to find a way to stop his mum from going on the school field trip to Hershey theme park but it back fire’s when she pulls out the secret weapon of a guilt letter to make Adam do what ever she want’s
Friday
Young Sheldon - A Research Study and Czechoslovakian Wedding Pastries
With the announcement that this season of the big bang theory is going to be it's last I am glad we still have a show as good as TBBT.
The most recent episode saw Sheldon and Missy take part in a twin study, this could be the "My mom had me tested" test Sheldon mentions a few time on TBBT.
The same night pairing of young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory is perfect so it’s going to be interesting to see what show gets paired with it be that a current show in a new time slot or a brand new show.
Saturday
Gold Rush - Smoked out
Not all the shows I watch are high drama or out and out comedies so are watched just because its fun not to have to think to hard or have to remember what happened last week for even a few episodes ago.
Gold rush is one of those, a show about gold mining that's more about the gold miners than the mining it’s self.
This season it’s all change as Todd Hoffman has left the show so that left a slot for a new mine boss that was filled but new mine boss Risk Ness has gone out on his own
After two episode it’s looking to be the best season yet as the drama behind the scenes between parker and Tony over royalties and use’s of water is making the show appointment TV that I like the watch first on a Saturday night.
