Welcome back to another week of TV watching. I am starting to see networks revel the final air dates for this current crop of shows so a lot of news should be coming soon so keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks.
To start with here are all the NBC shows that have been renewed so far.
When we have some of the shows I have been watching this past 7 days.
Please enjoy.
Deception (ABC)
Deception is a show about a disgraced magician who is trying to solve the murder case that has put his brother in jail while helping the FBI with case's that seem impossible.
This weeks episode was about the theft of a large stain glass window from a church while a famous street artist is spray painting the nearby building.
After watching five episodes of the show, I am still not sold on this show. I am enjoying the bit's near the end where they use big magic stunts to help capture the criminal. But I am still not entirely invested in the whole get my twin brother out of jail season story arc.
If this show gets's another season I hope they can keep the whole brother framed for murder story going for another season.
Barry (HBO)
It's very rare for an HBO show to be bad or only last one season unless that's its intent, And Barry is no exception as it's already been renewed after just airing three episodes.
Barry is all about a hit man who takes a job that send's him to LA, and in turn, get's him to join acting classes. The comedy comes from trying to fulfil the task he was sent to LA to do all the while hanging out with his new acting friends.
This weeks episode was about Barry having to take out a suspect but has to wait until a bullet sent in the post has arrived. Also, the Chechens are excited. For the arrival of a famous assassin which does not end well but is very funny.
Also, one of the members of the acting class makes a big mistake at an audition and turns to Barry for help, advice and comfort.
I am enjoying this show and am pleased this show is coming back from another season and can see an easy way of keeping it fresh just by having Barry take on a new job but still going to his acting classes
The Crossing (ABC)
After watching the first episode a few weeks ago in an exclusive preview airing, I was looking forward to the next instalment as I wanted to know more about the survivors and the reason's they got washed up on the shore.
If you have not seen any of the promo video's for this show, they keep saying it's from the network that brought you Lost and I can see why has there is a lot of questions that need answering.
In this week episode, we get to see into the future and see Reece adopted an orphan going against the apex, while in the present day a special force's team track down Reece and Jude work to a peaceful solution with the government.
Like Lost, I can see this show having a few seasons as they can bring in new travellers from the future. and tell them what it's like in the future and how the war with the apex is going
Rise (NBC)
I have spoken about my love of this show before, but I'll repeat it. This is a show that is being considered as one of my show of the year contender's. I love the fact every person feel integral to the overall story and that they are not shying away from the essential subjects including a gay relationship and a father determined to stop it happening.
Another thing this show does so well is using every emotion and leaving you feeling differently too how you were when you started watching it.
This week episode Simon starts his new school that he is only attending so he can't do the gay seances in the school play.
Also, Lou is introduced to the school band who will be playing all the music at the musical and find's out they are not a good as he had hoped. But after taking over the band rehearsal and making the band sound better within minutes which make the groups conductor almost quit the role but not before being convinced to stay and keep the position. If you are not watching this show I very highly recommend this one.
A.P. Bio (NBC)
For a comedy about a Harvard professor having to teach high school biology but instead using his students to get back at his arch-rival (Miles) by offering them an A grade if they do all that he asks and not tell anyone what they are doing is excellent.
This episode was about how the students tried to get Jack their teacher to teach them some biology without him realising it. To do this, they planned to frame is nemesis for murder by getting some of his DNA and planting it at the scene.
What makes this episode great is that they called back to a previous episode where they tried to catfish Miles. This was done as a way to get a cutting of his hair that they could plant at a murder scene. The only problem was they needed to find a murder scene that had not been discovered by the police already.
Another great story playing out in this episode was Principal Durbin not being allowed to watch a TV show everyone in the teacher's lounge is talking about. After taking Jack's advice, he stand's up to this wife on this matter he is kicked out of this house and stay's but after was few nights of Durbin's sleep walking/talking about the underground railroad Jack tries to get. Principal Durbin and his wife back together.
For the people (ABC)
For the people is a show produced by now famous TV legend Shonda Rhimes company Shondaland and is a show about both sides of a federal court and the case's they have to deal with.
This episode focused on a case that could only have one outcome based on the defendants past convictions. But after Judge Byrne find's out a person, he sent to jail on a minimum sentence was killed he tried all he could the get the two sides to agree, so he did not have to send someone else to prison for a one time mistake. But after the two sides would not move their position he had to follow the letter of the law no matter how absurd it makes this current situation.
Highlighting this within a show like this shows how some laws are out of touch with the current world and when followed precisely can put people into prison who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The length Judge Byrne goes to in order to keep this man out of jail even now to telling the jury what his man had previously been convicted for and even lose is job is just great story telling.
Alex, Inc. (ABC)
Alex, Inc. is the triumphant return of Zack Braff to the world of TV after moving way to focus on writing and directing movies.
Alex Shuman is a journalist unsatisfied is the stories he is being asked to write about so decided to quit his job and start a podcast company to tell the stories about people he wants to.
In this weeks episode saw Alex's (Zack Braff) wife offer to help chaperone Soraya's field trip to a butterfly pavilion but soon find out she is out of her depth as she is always distracted with work and does not see a very rare blue butterfly under her feet.
Meanwhile, Alex tries to show is dominates after his cousin Eddie has been making his decisions for him for years. So after Eddie makes a recording booth that Alex asked him not to they get into a fight and Eddie decides not to come back into work.
Also after Ben find an old guitar and quickly learns how to play it he is determined to be the musical accompany too Alex's podcast, and this creates some great comedy moments.
