Welcome back to another week of what “I Have Been Watching.” This is episode 4 of its 4th season and if you have been where before you will know I am trying to beat previous season’s so far this season has moved into third place as last year I only got to three blogs.

This week I have been doing well in not having to move shows over to another day.
This week only addition to my viewing is the returning “Mixed-ish”.

In an update to my plans to start using video posts on Instagram, I have now ordered the PC components I need to make it pc run fast and handle the necessary editing to create the posts for each show. Fingers crossed they arrive sometime this week.

In a very British way, I have set up a Patreon page to make me know I am doing it for someone and not just shouting into the wind.

Also a quick plug for my Instagram account where I post an image of the show I Have Been Watching. if you like seeing what i watch each week but would like it as up to date as possable give me a follow.

News

Renewed - Cancelled - ordered

Hey, we have some news in the past few weeks there has been a drought when it comes to Renewals or cancellations. But this week three shows or some level for interest for me have been renewed.

First of the U.S. version of “Love Island” from CBS. The Reality-TV dating show is renewed for its third season. The first season was filmed in Fiji and the second season was delayed and finally moved to Las Vegas, so it’s a welcome return an Island when it moves to Hawaii. This is a creative workaround any travel restrictions.

The next show coming back with more episode is Music/singing game show “I Can See Your Voice.” from Fox. I did watch the first episode and had planned to watch more but never got round to it. May try again for season 2

And finally “The Blacklist” is coming back for Season 9 again I got too far behind a few seasons ago, so I’m just going to wait until it comes to an end and starts again from the beginning

I Have Been Watching

The Rookie S3 E4 “Sabotage“

NBC - Comedy/Crime/Drama

Rookie The Season 3.jpg

For a lot of shows, they are an escape from the world. A way to forget about your problems and have an excellent time in the evenings, and that can be great. Still, it’s also incredible to see shows using their platform to spotlight a subject going on today and tie it into the storyline. This is precisely what “The Rookie” is currently doing with the Jackson story.

This week the story progressed when Officer Jackson and Sargent Grey started working together to get Doug Stanton Jacksons new training officer of the force for racial profiling.

When Jackson believes, Doug is going to hit a suspect; he has to choose either do as asked and retrieve the evidence or follow Doug and film what he is doing.

The other story in this weeks episode revolved around John Nolan and his mother. When she gets into selling CBD oil, she goes to the police station to sell them to Noland’s work collages, and after running into Sargent Grey’s wife who is looking for a new adventure, she decides to buy out Evelyn and start selling the CBD oil. When officers start breaking out in rashies she, grey & Noland go and confront the people Evelyn bought the products from.

The ending to this week’s episode helped move the story along but brought up some possible shady past in Noland’s life that he kept secret from his friends and the police force.

Weekend TV maybe a shortlist of shows to watch for me at the moment but “The Rookie” is most definitely a highlight it’s got everything I love about TV, it’s both a drama and a comedy equally. It’s got a short weekly story and a fantastic complete season arc.

The Good Doctor S4 E8 “Parenting“

ABC - Drama/Medical

Good Doctor, The 4.jpg

Another show that is not afraid to be right in your face “The Good Doctor” has always used the face that Shwan has Autism and the difficulty that can be for him within the world, but this week it was the difficulty from Lea’s parent’s who did not think Shawn was right for their daughter.

When Lea found out her parents were coming to see her and Shawn, she starts giving him tips on what to say and what not to say. They even have a practice dinner with Dr Glassman, who is also having trouble dealing with Shawn’s relationship. During the dinner, Shaun seems to impress Lea’s, Mother & Father but later discovers they don’t with the romance is a great idea.

After Lea tells Shawn that she love’s him fr who he is and that he his honest and blunt and that is what she likes about him, he decides to go and see Lea’s parents one more time before they go back home and tell them that he doesn’t care what they think about him, only what Lea feels about him.

This season’s other storyline is that Dr Lim struggles with PTSD from dealing with the Covid situation and her unwillingness to see anyone about it or even take the prescribed medication. When Dr Browne tries to help it only makes her friendship with Dr Lim more strained, this results in her going to Dr Glassman, the hospital president to inform her of what is going on and see if he can help Dr Lim.

This story is excellent as it’s a part of the current crisis that is not always spoken about and this can help so many people, and if used sparingly, it can help bring a sense of realism to the show.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist S2 E4 “Zoey's Extraordinary Employee“

NBC - Comedy/Drama/Musical

Zoey's Playlist.jpg

With “Sprq point” having to restructure to save some money, every floor has to let some people go; this is a task Zoey has not had to do before and finds it hard. After asking Leif and Tobin to create software to see who is the least productive hoping it would make it easier to fire someone. When it turns out that it’s Geoge one of the happiest people in the world that is the least productive she struggles to tell him that he is being let go.

Also, in this episode, Max and Mo struggle to deal with each other’s new business approach. Max is head down in the finances and believes Mo is not pulling his weight. While Mo is trying to remove any evil spirits but putting on a karaoke party, this creates tension between them until the next day when Mo explains that a journalist wants to write-up on them and their new venture.

Another story within this episode was that David is not enjoying his current job as a lawyer and wants to spend more time at home with the newborn baby. After a few chosen words from Zoey on a related subject Emily, David’s wife agrees David should stay at home and that she goes back to work.

For a show with a lot of sadness, it always puts a smile on my face; this is mainly because of the perfect use of music at the right time.

Chicago Fire S9 E4 “Funny what things remind us“

NBC - Action/Drama

Chicaog fire 2021.jpg

The Chicago franchise is one of TV’s great concepts. It always puts on a great show, especially in the crossover events. This weeks “Fire” showed the funny side to the firehouse after the Fre crew were sent to a cars accident involving the travelling light-up billboard. When another fire track arrived on the scene, offering help after going on a doughnut run.
It sparked a long ceased rivalry between “Mouch” and a fellow firefighter Chuck Rutledge.

After Chuck is unwilling to help sweep up the scene Mouch is determined to get back at him,
This reignited rivalry between them, to the level that Mouch put’s up a sign outside Chuck’s firehouse saying they sell doughnuts. This is not the end of it has Chuck has a sign of his own positioned outside firehouse 51 saying they have free doughnuts.

To balance out the funny storyline, they also had to story of Chef Boden tasked with going around Chicago checking all the condemned building are still boarded up. But after finding one with its board’s off and the front door open he and Kelly, trying to avoid Stella, make there way inside only to find a man who only says a few numbers. After some digging Boden with help from Trudy for PD, they discover its Harry Sidwell, a former police officer with dementia. Once reunited with his wife, Boden offers her support if it’s needed.

The Neighborhood S3 E8 “Welcome to the property“

CBS - Comedy

Neighborhood 2021.jpg

One of my favourite comedy on at the moment this weeks Neighborhood was the show at it’s best. When Calvin’s rival reveals, he is selling his house to developers; it puts a spark in Calvin to try and stop it as he does not want his community to be gentrified. To prevent this, everybody offers to clean up the place and sell it for him to both make more money and keep the neighbourhood the same.

After discovering it a more challenging task than first thought, they resort for hiding the imperfections, but the open house does not yield any buyers, and after Marty makes an off-hand comment about how he would love to live in a place like this. This give Calvin the idea to buy the house himself and rent it to Marty, but when Marty says he would not be able to afford the rent Malcolm offers to move in with him and share the rent cost’s

For a show that is only half an hour, it always has a lot going on in each episode, so when an episode comes along that only has one story, it always fills me with dread as I am worried it can’t keep the pace and make the show slow and boring. Still, this week’s show was the complete opposite.

Gold Rush: Freddy Dodge Mine Rescue S1 E2 “For Pete’s sake“

Discovery + - Reality-TV

Freddy dodge.jpg

It’s not breaking news that I am a big fan of the Gold Rush Franchise so whenever I get the chance to check out a new one I’m on it straight away. This is what I did when I watched an episode of Gold Rush: Freddy Dodge mine rescue and in surprise to anyone I loved it. So much so I went back from another episode.

This episode saw a miner struggling to catch fine gold from his wash plant even after spending massive amounts of money on fancy equipment. From the first inspection of his washplant, Freddy and best friend Juan saw ways to improve his gold recovery.

After running the plant for 6hr’s they needed to see how much gold they had managed to retrieve, but they discovered that this was a lengthy task as the concentrate was done a teaspoon as a time.

Even without the results for the previous days run Freedy and Juan started to make changes to the washplant by changing the shaker screens to ones with larger holes to stop gold being sent out into the discarded tailings pile. They also added dampeners along the sluice runs to help the gold sink to the bottom of the runs and get trapped in the riffles.

Another change Freddy made was adding a gold table to both speeds up the gold recovery but is more successful/accurate than doing it by hand.

After all the changes Freddy & Juan made around the mine site they managed to get the recovery total over the bottom-line target.

It’s a shame that this season is only 6 episode long, but with its success, I can see it being made longer in further seasons with more people asking for help become better gold miners.

Like I always say, Thank you for coming back and checking out another post.
Let’s keep this year’s streak going I am currently on four weeks with my record being 16 weeks.
I hope to see you back here again next week.
Thanks, by for now.
